Our members enjoy many benefits, including:
MONTHLY MEETINGS: On the first Thursday of each month, September through June, home schooling parents meet for fellowship and mutual encouragement, to "keep on keeping on" in our calling to teach our children at home.
MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS: Each month our group produces a newsletter with announcements of upcoming events and activities. Members can receive this newsletter by email a few days before the monthly meetings to get information early!
MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY: Each member of our group receives a copy of our membership directory. This is a valuable resource that enables members to network with other homeschooling families in the group, for everything from services offered to individual help and support.
LEARNING CO-OPs: Learning Co-ops are group activities or classes for the children, organized by two or more home schooling families for the purpose of enriching their children's education. Co-ops are a supplement to the family home school and can involve group studies, science experiments, enrichment activities, and a limitless number of other possibilities, all centered around the theme or subject being studied.
MOMS' BRUNCH and MOMS' NIGHT OUT: Our group attempts to provide ample opportunity for moms to talk with others who share their unique concerns about the challenges of homeschooling. Watch the current newsletter for more information!
FIELD TRIPS: Each year, field trips are planned to a variety of places appealing to various age groups. Some of the field trips are geared toward the classics, e.g. theater, concerts, and museums, while other trips are scientific in nature. Some field trips are just for fun for the whole family! Member families have the ability to network with other homeschooling families to enrich their children's educational experiences through field trips and other small-group activities.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: This is a broad category that is constantly changing according to the needs and interests of our members. Included have been Mothers' Retreats, Used Book and Curriculum Sale, Project Fair, Basketball, Graduation Celebration, swimming lessons, fall picnic, monthly newsletter, Book-It Pizza, SAT testing, Spelling Bee, Ice Skating, and assorted co-ops within the group. Members are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings to stay informed about our myriad activities.
RESOURCE LIBRARY: KCCHS
owns many books, videos, and other resources that
are available for our members to borrow.
BECOMING A MEMBER: All
adults desiring membership in the Kane County Christian
Home Schoolers' Support Group must agree with and
sign the statement of faith and liability release
form. Annual dues are $25 for new, first time members,
and $30 for returning members with a $5 discount
for early registration (before July 31).
**Those adults who are not members but desire to come to Support Group meetings or Moms' Brunches are welcome.
**Because of the individual diversity of learning styles, educational philosophies, and unique family perspectives, KCCHS does not recommend or endorse any one curriculum. The responsibility for choosing an appropriate course of study lies with the parents. Resource guides, such as Mary Pride's Big Book of Home Learning , or Cathy Duffy's Curriculum Manuals are invaluable in reviewing the materials available to home educators. KCCHS encourages all parents to consider prayerfully and choose carefully!
